April had been so concerned about how the evening would turn out and if they would vibe well for the next couple of hours, but as soon as they left the office the time together flew and had both of them not wanting to leave one another’s company. Every attempt April made in keeping their dinner all about business, Benjamin changed it to pleasure in an effort to learn more about her. He never had any intention of this being a work dinner, as he told her, but figured that was the best way to convince April to join him. Of course, he tried to deny it when it came up.

“Benjamin, I thought you said that this was to be a dinner meeting to discuss the job,” April asked after their waitress took away their empty appetizer, soup, and salad dishes, making room for their dinner entrees.

“Well, originally, I did intend for it to be that. But I think you and I have had a chance to become better acquainted since my original invitation so we can be less formal. Plus, you work so hard as it is, April. You have to learn to play a little,” Benjamin responded with a smile before lifting his glass of wine to his lips.

“My experience playing has gotten me into trouble, so that’s why I concentrate on my work a lot more these days.” April was thinking of her failed relationship with Drew, but soon regretted having went there so soon. Wine usually got her to talking too much.

“What do you mean by that? You don’t come across as a troublemaker to me.”

“Well, I’m not the troublemaker, but let’s just say that I have let my guard down and allowed troublemakers to take advantage, I guess you can say.”

“I can understand that,” Benjamin responded empathetically as he stared into her eyes. He noticed the glossy look and did not want to push her although he was curious about what man had broken her heart. “Has there been someone else besides that guy from the other night.”

“Unfortunately,” April took another swig of her wine to avoid making eye contact with Benjamin. She surprisingly felt comfortable enough with him to open up but at the same time she felt she was saying too much.

“I’m sorry if I’m getting to personal, April. I was just curious…wondering what foolish man would mess up their chances with you.”

This made April get warm all over as she was touched by Benjamin’s comment, but also nervous because it was becoming clearer to her that he was definitely flirting.

“No, you’re not getting personal. Actually, I don’t mind talking about it.”

April continued on confiding in Benjamin about her relationship with Drew and how it had ended weeks before she met Benjamin.

“I thought him and I were headed for marriage, but I was shocked to learn that we weren’t exactly on the same page. He basically strung me along. This date from the other night? That was my first time back dating since the breakup.
